South Warrington Paramedics Helping Patients Feel Better, Sooner

Patients registered with GP practices across South Warrington are benefiting from a dedicated Minor Ailments Service delivered by highly skilled Primary Care Paramedics working throughout the South Warrington Primary Care Network (PCN).

The service offers convenient same-day appointments for patients with a range of common health conditions, providing expert assessment, treatment and advice without the need to wait for a GP appointment.

Primary Care Paramedics are specially trained healthcare professionals who work alongside GPs and the wider practice team. They can assess, examine and treat a variety of minor illnesses, prescribe medication where appropriate, arrange tests, provide follow-up care and refer patients to specialist services when needed.

The Minor Ailments Service supports patients aged 12 weeks and over and can help with a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Ear infections
  • Upper and lower respiratory tract infections
  • Sinusitis
  • Asthma exacerbations
  • Vertigo and dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Rhinitis, including allergic rhinitis
  • Eye complaints such as conjunctivitis
  • Non-severe abdominal pain
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Minor skin conditions and infections, including rashes, eczema and shingles

Appointments are available both in GP practices and, where clinically appropriate, through home visits for patients who are unable to attend the surgery. This ensures that more patients can access prompt clinical support while reducing the need to travel when unwell.

The introduction of Primary Care Paramedics across South Warrington is helping GP practices provide greater access to care and ensuring patients are seen by the healthcare professional best suited to meet their needs.

By expanding the range of clinicians available within primary care, the service enables patients to receive timely assessment and treatment while supporting GP teams to focus on more complex medical needs.

If you contact your GP practice with symptoms that fall within the Minor Ailments Service, the reception team may offer you an appointment with a Primary Care Paramedic. Patients can be reassured that they will receive safe, expert care from an experienced Clinician who is able to assess, treat and prescribe for many common conditions.

South Warrington Primary Care Network is committed to providing high-quality, accessible healthcare for local residents, ensuring patients get the right care, at the right time, from the right clinician.

We're here to help you feel better, sooner.
